Join us for The Big Sing, a free event where everyone is invited to come together and sing along to classic songs with a live band. As part of the Sound of the Streets Day on Saturday, October 12th, this exciting event will take place on Bridgwater High Street, featuring songs like Come Together, Lovely Day, Happy, and Bob Marley’s Three Little Birds. If singing isn’t your thing, feel free to listen, dance, and soak up the fun atmosphere.

The day kicks off at 10:00 a.m. with a solo saxophonist, followed by the Bristol samba band Ilu Axé, along with funky street brass, drumming groups, and youth bands. The highlight, The Big Sing, starts around 1:20 p.m., led by veteran street musician Tim Hill and his band Tongues of Fire. Tim, who has lived in Somerset for over 20 years, says:

“This is a wonderful chance for us all to come together and sing songs we know and love with a great band.”

Song sheets will be provided, but many will already know the lyrics. The event is organised by The Sound of the Streets, a Somerset-based charity that runs free outdoor events, festivals, and educational projects for young people.

Alongside The Big Sing, the charity is also running Beats on the Streets, a drumming project for young people under 18 in the Taunton and Bridgwater areas. Led by talented drummer Sean O’Hara, and professional drummers Emma Holbrook and Jo Meikle, the project aims to create energetic drumming groups. Sessions are held at Eastover Youth Centre and Victoria Park Community Centre.

The day is supported by the Animating the Town Centre Panel and funded by the Ministry for Housing, Communities and Local Government’s Town Deal.
