6th May | Doors 7:30 | Creative Innovation Centre CIC Taunton
A night of funky brass grooves brings the sound of the street to the CIC. Street bands are one of the musical wonders of the world, making a joyful noise from the Balkans to New Orleans and from Durham to Delhi, making music that is accessible and life affirming. Tonight, the CIC are hosting a benefit for the festival with music by Tongues of Fire and Vincent Touret, an incredible French street musician and trombonist
Tongues of Fire are run by veteran street musician Tim Hill and blow up a musical storm of brass, reeds and percussion, their joyful noise includes modern New Orleans street music, English folk, circus music, original material and popular songs. The result is a rich, wild and unique sound, both very English and international. Leading jazz trumpet player Stuart Henderson and local trumpet legend Joe Porter feature in the band with Taunton’s own Sousaphone powerhouse Tom Francombe. Driving the band is young jazz drummer Jo Meikle.
“Referencing the collective shamanic voodoo of Sun Ra and Albert Ayler’s mystical shrieks and shronks, they fire up an unholy modal roustabout of a party. Blindingly good. 5/5” International DJ Magazine.
The night will also feature a brass’n’beats sound system and projections. Looking forward to seeing you there! To book in advance head to the CICCIC website.
